Spain player ratings

STAR MAN ... Xavi
STAR MAN ... Xavi

IKER CASILLAS — 7
EVERY keeper would love to play behind a defence like Spain’s.

Looked a bit shaky early on but made a big save to deny Di Natale in the second half.
ALVARO ARBELOA — 7

WAS charged with the job of keeping Cassano quiet as the Italian likes to drift in from the wing.

Put in an excellent shift, making few mistakes while supporting the attack. Has become a fine defender.
GERARD PIQUE — 7

A TOWERING performance from Pique at the back. Like the rest of Spain’s defence, never afraid to race forward and support the defence. Booked.
SERGIO RAMOS — 7

HAD a fascinating tussle with Balotelli. At one stage you wondered which of them would end up getting sent off.

Excellent at the back and almost scored at the end.
JORDIA ALBA — 8

INCREDIBLE for a full-back.

He passed to Xavi, and raced forward for a finish any striker would have been proud of.
SERGIO BUSQUETS — 8

MAYBE not the one who gets all the adulation but is a player who is still vital for Spain.

Broke up Italy’s play time and again.
XAVI — 9

DREAM TEAM STAR MAN. Instrumental in Spain’s midfield masterclass.

A key man in two of the goals and truly a class act.
XABI ALONSO — 8

LIVERPOOL fans must still wish he was pulling on a red shirt for them.

The Real Madrid star is a different — and stronger player. His tackling is much better now.
DAVID SILVA — 8

HIS fine opening goal sparked celebrations not only in Spain but also in Manchester. The blue half, that is.

Timed his run to perfection for the goal. Full of running before he was subbed.
ANDRES INIESTA — 8

IT would be amazing if Manchester City or someone offered him £300,000 a week and got him to the Premier League. A truly outstanding player. Great pass for the opening goal.
CESC FABREGAS — 8

HAS had an excellent tournament.

Busy and industrious, also showed a touch of quality for the opening goal and unfortunate to be replaced by Torres.
SUBSTITUTES

PEDRO (Silva 59 mins) Worked hard. 5

FERNANDO TORRES (Fabregas 74 mins). Not a bad arrival as a sub. Scored one and set up one after an awful club season. 8

JUAN MATA (Iniesta 85 mins) Easy goal for Spain’s fourth.
VICENTE DEL BOSQUE

BOSS of what will surely be rated as the greatest team ever.

He did not start the reign of Spain but has ensured a smooth handover from Luis Aragones.

Has amazing players, but still a stunning achievement.
