The Flame visits Durdle Door

Day 56: The Olympic Flame visits Chesil Beach and Durdle Door as it travels through Dorset

The Olympic Flame will travel through the spectacular scenery of Dorset today, as it journeys from Portland Bill to Bournemouth.

    Day 56 begins on Pulpit Rock
    Torchbearer Thomas Mules holds the Olympic Flame on Pulpit Rock, Portland Bill on the Isle of Portland, at the beginning of Day 56 of the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay.
The 76-mile route will take in scenic locations along the Jurassic Coast, including Portland Bill, the natural rock arch Durdle Door and the vast shingle expanse of Chesil Beach.

The first Torchbearer of the day will be Tom Mules, 16, from Weymouth, who will run with the Flame at Pulpit Rock, Portland Bill. He was nominated as a Torchbearer for his commitment to competing in biathlons, triathlons and his work as a young ambassador for sport and for children with disabilities.

Vickie Mattock, 39, from Gloucester will carry the Flame to the vantage point overlooking Chesil Beach. She was selected through the Lloyds TSB campaign for her work with local charities.

An evening celebration in Bournemouth will include music from dance troupe Wretch 32, and an electric quintet from the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.

The Flame will be carried through 24 communities: Portland Bill, Southwell, Weston, Easton, Portland, Fortuneswell, Weymouth, Preston, Osmington, Winfrith Newburgh, Wool, Corfe Castle, Swanage, Stoborough, Wareham, Sandford, Lytchett Minster, Upton, Hamworthy, Poole, Ashley Cross, Branksome, Wallisdown and Bournemouth.
