Calhoun Breaks His Hip

By PETE THAMEL
Coach Jim Calhoun, who has led the Connecticut men’s team to three N.C.A.A. titles, broke his hip in a bicycle accident and had surgery at the UConn Health Center in Farmington. Calhoun, 70, slipped on sand while riding near his beach home in Madison, Conn., falling off the bike. This is the latest health complication for Calhoun, who has outlasted three bouts with cancer, missed games because of back problems last year and broke five ribs while riding his bike in 2009. The fall forced Calhoun to miss a charity game on Saturday night that featured many of his former players.
