Battling Button is still cool

Jenson Button
By BEN HUNT

JENSON BUTTON will not crack — despite putting himself under pressure to end his dreadful slump.

That is the view of McLaren’s sporting director Sam Michael, who believes the Brit is putting on a brave face to hide his pain.
Button won the first race of the season but has since seen his challenge hit the skids.
The 2009 world champion has failed to finish in the points in three of his last four races.
But Michael insisted: “Jenson probably does put himself under pressure internally, but he copes with pressure very well.
“He has a very good poker face and, even under the current situation where he feels under pressure, he doesn’t let that show.
“That’s how he’s always been — he’s like that whether he’s winning or whether he’s struggling.
“It’s one of his strengths and he’s got a lot of confidence in his ability — he’s not a world champion for nothing. He’s still in the title hunt and he knows that.”
While Button has struggled, his team-mate Lewis Hamilton tasted victory in the Canadian Grand Prix.
And that win has restored the feel-good factor to McLaren ahead of this weekend’s European Grand Prix in Valencia.
He added: “The win has given everyone a big boost and a lot of incentive to try and repeat it.”
